As I’ve explained on the about page, this blog is going to be a place where I can try to push myself to improve my photography.
Why? Well, that’s simple. Because I want to get better.
I’m going to try to get better by focusing on producing little visual documentaries on various things. Hence the title – Short Documents.
Unlike a real documentary photographer however, I don’t really want to try and document or convey some kind of objective and impartial truth. What I want to try and document are my impressions of things.
Why series? Well, it seems to me it is not so hard to focus on a single compositional idea and work it and then select the best photograph from those shot (this of course does not imply it would necessarily be a good photograph). I think it is much harder to produce an actual set of images about something, and harder yet to produce a good set of images.
So, that’s what I’m aiming at. This includes not only photographing different aspects of objects or things that revolve around the subject or theme, but also editing out the similar images – trying to avoid the common photo-site phenomenon of a dozen slightly different versions of basically the same composition.
So, that’s the plan. I do suspect though, that often it will end up being just a single image that gets posted.
